Chocolate Drizzled Stovetop Kettle Corn w Oreos and Sprinkles

    May 29, 2015 · Modified: Nov 22, 2020 · by Sarah Mir

And that folks is what a tray of happy looks like when you're four years old 🙂

Stovetop Kettle Corn with a Chocolate Drizzle, Oreos and Sprinkles

When Salma over at The Write Balance posted her perfect stovetop popcorn recipe I realized  how long it had been since I had made any myself. Kettle corn with it's sweet salty twist is my personal favorite so that was a no-brainer. The Oreos and sprinkles I had on hand and mixed them in. Mix in whatever you have handy or nothing at all. Because there is such little 'cooking' required, once the popcorn has popped this is such a fun thing to do with kids. They love to suggest mix ins, help you take pictures (lol), and of course - taste test.

Have a bright, happy, colorful weekend. This also brings to an end my ten posts over two weeks challenge courtesy the South Asian Bloggers Network. Thank you for coming back every day. If I could figure out how I would insert a bunch of heart emoticons here 😉

Kettle Corn with a Chocolate Drizzle, Oreos, and Sprinkles

    ¼ cup vegetable oil
    ½ cup popcorn
    ¼-1/3 cup sugar
    ¼ tsp salt
Mix Ins: ¼ cup semi sweet chocolate chips, ⅓-1/2 cup crushed Oreo, 2 tbsp of sprinkles.

Line a large tray with foil or parchment paper. Set aside.

Heat your oil in a large pot (you want lots of room for approx 8-10 cups of popcorn) and add in 2-3 kernels of corn. When they pop then pour in the rest of the kernels, sugar, salt, and shake to distribute. Then keep your lid slightly ajar and shake your pot occasionally to prevent the sugar burning. If your pot lid has a steam vent then open the vent. If not and keeping the lid ajar is tricky then you can either use a larger lid which will still allow steam i.e moisture to escape or cover the top with foil and stick holes in it. If you halve the recipe this will work in most pasta pots too. Once there is a 2-3 second lag then take the popcorn off the stove, shaking it once and wait till the popping has stopped.

Spread the fresh tasty popcorn over your lined tray and scatter over the crushed oreos. Now melt your chocolate chips and drizzle over the oreo-popcorn mix and while the chocolate is still soft liberally shower the popcorn with sprinkles. Eat, eat, eat 🙂

Until now in my world popcorn existed in two flavours: salty or sugary. Now I am just blown away: chocolaty 🙂
